New Dates Set For Bridge Demolition

(KAIR)--New dates have been set for the demolition of the former US 59 Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge.

The Kansas Department of Transportation says the first blast will take place this upcoming Monday morning, October 7th, with two subsequent blasts taking place on Friday, October 11th and Monday, October 28th.  All the blasts are scheduled for 9 in the morning.


According to a release from KDOT, the general public will be able to view the demolition blasting all three days from the Riverside Park area located off River Road, about 50-foot north of the Pepper Mill Restaurant in Atchison.

Also, in preparation for the demolition, KDOT has announced that eastbound and westbound U.S. 59 over the NEW Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge will be reduced to ONE LANE in each direction Thursday ( October 3rd ) through next Tuesday, 
October 8th between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day.
 
Drivers should expect delays during the daily lane closures and will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones.
