(KNZA)--A new police chief has been selected for the Doniphan County community of Wathena.
The City Council voted unanimously this week to hire current Leavenworth Police officer Jason Pendleton for the position at a starting salary of $18 an hour.
Pendleton will officially be appointed to the position once he establishes residency in Wathena. Since he has to give a two-week notice, he will initially fill in as his schedule allows.
Pendleton has served as an officer with the Leavenworth Police Department for the past four years.
The Kansas Chief reports he previously worked in Doniphan County law enforcement, serving as a K-9 officer with the Highland Police Department and deputy with the Doniphan County Sheriff’s Department.
Pendleton replaces Raymond Hall who recently resigned to take a job as a deputy with the Doniphan County Sheriff’s Department.
