(KAIR)--The Atchison police department responded to three calls in a one block area Friday night, with all three occuring within hours of each other. The third call came just after 1:30 Saturday morning reporting a disturbance at the 400 block of north 7th street. Atchison police chief Mike Wilson says that when officers arrived at the scene, a fight was still ongoing. It had started after 23 year old Jerron Cheeks-Beard allegedly broke into the home of the 22 year old victim and slashed him on the arm with a knife. Cheeks-Beard was taken into custody in this incident, and faces one charge of aggravated battery and one charge of aggravated burglary.
Wilson goes on to say that there were two earlier events in the same area occuring earlier in the evening. Around 10:29 Friday night, 27 year old Alex Zanatta was arrested for driving under the influence after the vehicle he was driving struck parked vehicles on the 400 block of North 7th. Then, later that evening, just before 1:00 Saturday morning, 22 year old Andrew Valentine was arrested for allegedly breaking a window in a residence on the 300 block of North 7th.
The incident involving Cheeks-Beard allegedly stemmed from the broken window incident. Wilson states that a lot of misinformation among those involved was a major contributor to these incidents.
