(KLZA) On a 6-1 vote Monday night Falls City Council members approved a request from Tri State Truck and Tractor for use of city property for an access road off of Highway 73. Councilman Mike Dougherty cast the nay vote with Councilman Kirby Roubidoux absent.
City Administrator Gary Jorn says it appears only a very limited amount of city property would be used for the road. Councilman Jerry Oliver suggested the project could actually be a benefit to the City allowing easier access to the pump house at the aquatic park where chemicals are delivered.
Councilman Dougherty raised concerns about dust from the access road affecting the aquatic park to the north of the business. He said he would like to help out the business but feels it is important to protect city facilities from potential problems.
Council member Don Ferguson said the dust did not concern him as much as he expects only minimal traffic on the road, noting the slow speed of the traffic utilizing the road.
In other business Council member approved requests to rent Prichard Auditorium and allow the sale of alcohol at those events. Requests for use of streets and parking stalls for various upcoming events including Spooks on the Square and the Jingle Bell Ride were approved.
Several agenda items pertaining to the $310,000 housing rehabilitation grant the City has received were also approved.
Also approved was a request by the Library and Community Foundation of Richardson County to install a 6-foot, by 6-foot concrete pad on the northeast corner of the library property for displaying outside sculptures. The cost is expected to be about $1,700.
