(KNZA)--Two people are in custody following an early morning pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies that began in Jackson County.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says the chase began shortly after 2:20 Friday morning after a Potawatomi Tribal police officer attempted to stop a car near the intersection of 158th Road and U.S. 75 Highway after the tag was identified as stolen out of Wyandotte County.
Brown County Sheriff’s Office deputies deployed stop sticks in northern Jackson and Southern Brown Counties. The vehicle continued north until it was disabled by Brown County authorities near Sabetha.
Taken into custody are the driver, 23-year-old John-Michael Lee Devosha and the passenger, 21-year-old Latisha Marie Hare, both of Kansas City, Kansas.
Devosha, who was considered armed and dangerous is wanted by federal authorities including U.S. Marshal’s and ATF for weapon and drug charges. In addition, Devosha is wanted by numerous Kansas law enforcement agencies.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit assisted in locating a 9 mm loaded handgun that was thrown from the vehicle several miles north of Holton.
Participating in the pursuit and investigation were the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Potawatomi Tribal Police, Brown County Sheriff's Office, Sabetha Police Department, Sac and Fox Tribal Police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and
Kickapoo Tribal Police.
