(KNZA)--Voters in the City of Holton say yes to a one-half percent city wide retailers sales tax.
That's the outcome of the special question decided during Tuesday's election.
The sales tax passed 205 to 68, with a total of 275 votes cast.
Of those, two are provisional, meaning there are questions regarding the eligibility of the vote.
The Jackson County Clerks office says, based on Holton's 2,149 registered voters, the number of ballots cast equals a voter turnout of 12.7 percent.
Those 205 voters gave the ok to the sales tax increase which will be used to fund maintenance of public infrastructure and pay down outstanding debt.
Holton consumers will begin to see the evidence of the increase on January 1st, when the one-half percent boost takes effect.
Projected to generate nearly $390,000 annually, the tax will remain in place for ten years.
Tuesday's vote will not be considered official until the formal canvass by Jackson County Commissioners on Tuesday.
