(KNZA)-- A gas leak forces the evacuation of the Holton Community Hospital.
Hospital CEO Carrie Saia says nursing staff at the hospital smelled gas inside the building shortly after 6 Tuesday morning and 911 was called. Saia said everyone was evacuated from the hospital, and patients were taken to the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton.
Saia said Kansas Gas Service was called to the scene and located the leak outside the hospital. However, she said because the air intake handlers were fairly close to where the leak was located, they were bringing the gas smell into the building.
The gas was shut off and repairs made. The all clear was given around 11 Tuesday morning and the hospital was re-opened.
