Missouri Voters May Decide Tax Questions
11/15/2013

(AP) - Missouri voters could face a couple of taxing decisions next year.

The November 2014 ballot could feature a proposed 1-cent sales tax increase for transportation. It also could feature a proposed income tax cut.

Supporters of the transportation tax already have submitted their initiative to the secretary of state's office and are raising money to start gathering petition signatures.

Supporters of the income tax cut also are considering going to the ballot after lawmakers were unable to override a veto of a tax-cut bill by Governor Jay Nixon.

If both measures make it to the ballot, they could command most of the attention in next year's election. That's because, for the first time since 1990, Missouri's general election ballot will have no candidates for president, senator or governor.
