(KAIR)--The Atchison police department continues to investigate the theft of a 2001 GMC Sierra 3500 pickup truck belonging to the estate of the late Jack Davis that was taken from the 1000 block of Oak Street on November 2nd.
Atchison police chief Mike Wilson says that while investigating, police became interested in a trailer that they found in the same vicinity where the truck had been stolen. Officials seized the trailer, and determined that the vehicle identification number had been removed from that trailer.
Wilson says there were too many things about the situation that did not make sense, such as the fact that the trailer was hooked up to another truck that was found in the area. Also, the person in possession of the truck and trailer could not provide a valid reason as to why he was in the area in the first place.
Police arrested 47-year old Brian Dietz of Agency MO when he could not provide valid documentation as to why he was in possession of the trailer. He was transported to the Atchison County Jail and faces charges of removing a vehicle identification number and making false information. No bond information is available at this time.
