(KAIR)--An Atchison man, wanted in connection with a past shoplifting case, is now in custody, facing additional charges involving the possession of methamphetamine. Police found the substance, believed to be the drug, when 42-year-old Joseph Vandiver was taken into custody at the time of the theft.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says a vehicle driven by Vandiver was stopped in the 600 block of Kansas Avenue Monday afternoon by an officer who knew he was wanted on two District Court Warrants related to the alleged crimes.
Wilson says the original theft charges were filed through Municipal Court, but have since been filed in District Court along with the new charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
