(KAIR)--Atchison City Officials have taken the next step towards increasing the city's annual bond issuance authority.
City Finance Director Becky Anderson came before the Commission during their meeting Monday afternoon for a second reading of an ordinance which, she says will update the current ordinance. Which allows the city to issue up to $750,000 in bonds for various things listed in the ordinance such as general maintenance and equipment purchases.
Anderson says the current $750,000 limit on the bond issuance authority is keeping the city from purchasing new fire truck in one year. If the bond issuance authority is increased to $1-million, it will allow the city to purchase the truck in 2014 with the 2014 bond authority.
The City Commission voted 4-1 to adopt the ordinance. With Commissioner Larry Purcell casting the lone no vote. Anderson says the next step is to publish the ordinance for public viewing, with a sixty one day protest period following.
