(KNZA)--Unemployment rates were up in area northeast Kansas counties in February, but down from one year ago.
According to a report from the Kansas Department of Labor, Doniphan County was the only area county that didn’t see an increase in its jobless rate last month--holding steady at 6.2 percent.
Leavenworth County had the highest unemployment rate at 7.5 percent while Nemaha County had the lowest at 3.5 percent.
Elsewhere, Atchison County’s jobless rate in February was 7.3 percent; Jefferson, 7.2 percent; Jackson, 6.5 percent; Pottawatomie, 5.7 percent; Brown, 5 percent; and Marshall, 4.1 percent.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate inched up to 4.9 percent in February, an increase of one-tenth of a percent from January. However, the jobless rate was down from 5.6 percent in February of last year. It’s the third straight month in a row that the state’s unemployment rate has remained below 5 percent.
