(KNZA)--Voters in Hiawatha, Holton, Horton and Fairview will go to the polls Tuesday.
In Hiawatha, voters will decide the fate of a half-cent city-wide retailers’ sales tax proposal for the construction of new city-owned movie theater. In addition, funding from the sales tax, projected to generate $330,000 annually, would be used for recreational and economic development purposes. Two Hiawatha City Commission positions are also up for election. Bill Collins and Dr. Steffen Shamburg are running unopposed in their bids for re-election. Voters in Hiawatha will cast their ballots at the Fisher Community Center.
In Holton, Twila White is running against Hal Cochren in his bid for re-election to position 5 on the City Commission. Bob Dieckmann is running unopposed in his bid for re-election to position 1. Voting will take place at the Jackson County Fair building.
In Horton, Bryan Stirton is challenging incumbent Jeremy Forkenbrock for the position of Police Commissioner, and Lonnie Boller is running against Al Barton in his bid to retain his position as Parks and Recreation Commissioner. Voters in Horton will cast their ballots at the Blue Building.
In Fairview, write-ins will determine who will fill two council positions and the position of mayor as no one filed for any of the positions. Voters in Fairview will cast their ballots at the Community Center.
The polls will be open Tuesday from 7 in the morning until 7 in the evening.
