(KAIR)--The stop lights at the four way stop at the intersection of Atchison's Fifth Street and Kansas Avenue have come down.
This comes after the Atchison City Commission voted 4-1 during their meeting last month to remove the lights, and replace them with permanent stop signs.
During that meeting, Police Chief Mike Wilson told Commissioners there had been no wrecks reported in that area since the lights were turned off, and the signs erected, though some citations for running the signs had been issued.
Commissioner Rita Harman cast the lone no vote, saying that she felt the city was taking a step backwards by removing the lights, while Commissioner Allen Reavis agreed with the move, as long as the intersection of Sixth Street and and Kansas Avenue was updated sometime in the near future.
