Horton Schools Find Unexpected Cost of Safety
01/10/2012

An unexpected, and costly, expenditure arises in the South Brown County Schools; but, in the name of student athlete safety, it's a price tag USD 430 board members are gladly willing to pick up.
During Monday night's meeting of the Board of Education, Superintendent Doctor Steve Davies informed the board that a substantial number of football helmets are found to be deficient, and that means danger to the players who wear them(Play Audio)

Prior to the expenditure being approved by the board, Davies says further study will be conducted(Continue Audio)

Funding the necessary cost will be finalized once the study is completed.
The USD 430 Board, during their meeting, also addressed, and approved, the district's technology plan; approved funding for reduced text books; addressed the current budget; and discussed the future of the DVL.
That ongoing matter, and a possible decision on what fate may await the league, will be discussed during a 9:00 meeting this Tuesday morning at the Fisher Center in Hiawatha.
