Larry Fenske has been appointed as the new chairman of the Jackson County Commission for 2012.
The 3rd District commissioner was appointed chairman during the commission’s annual re-organizational meeting Monday.
1st district commissioner Ed Kathrens was appointed as vice-chairman.
In other business, the commission adopted a resolution that establishes a registration process for scrap metal dealers in the county.
County Counselor Alex Morrissey presented the resolution to the commission for adoption to address a new state requirement for scrap metal dealers to be registered.
Sheriff Tim Morse informed commissioners that a hot water heater had gone out at the jail. He said a second hot water heater that is the same age is in bad shape and on the verge of breakdown. The sheriff presented three bids for the replacement of the hot water heater, as well as options to replace both hot water heaters at the same time. The commission agreed that both should be replaced.
The commission accepted the low bid from Bell Plumbing of Holton for the replacement of the two water heaters in the amount of $11,590.
