Holton 59 – Nemaha Valley 30
After jumping to an early 9-0 lead, Nemaha Valley clawed their way back and was alive at 21-18 before Holton scored the final six points of the first half. The Lady Raiders made only one field goal the final two quarters falling to 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the league. MaKayla Brezina led NV with 12 points. Holton hit six treys slowly pulled away in the second half led by Lauren Bagby who scored a game-high 13 points. Jayna Smith added 12 and Ryann Bowser 11 as Holton won their 94th straight Big 7 contests improving to 16-0 on the season.
BOYS
Nemaha Valley 39 – Holton 37
The Raiders led throughout the first half including 20-19 at the break; however, Holton took a 23-20 advantage early in the third frame. NV answered with a 13-0 run capped by sinking four free throws after a Holton foul and technical. The Wildcats responded by scoring 10 consecutive points to tie the game at 33 early in the fourth quarter. The game was also tied at 35 and 37 before NV perfectly executed a patient play that got Creighton Brinker an open layup with 5.5 seconds to go. Tyler Burdiek caught the insuing inbound pass at half court and missed a driving shot at the basket as time expired giving the Raiders a season sweep of Holton. Brinker ended up with 10 points as NV improved to 14-2 overall and pulled even with Holton and Sabetha at 8-2 in the league. Burkiek paced the Cats with 13 points and Trent Tanking added 10 before fouling out with a minute to go in the game. Holton is now 13-3.
