Petitions to recall Richardson County Assessor Regina Cummings have now been given to Terry Lotter and Fred Brewer who requested the recall petitions earlier this month.
Lotter and Brewer said they started the recall effort because they feel Cummings is not performing her duties as County Assessor.
Cummings submitted a statement of defense that is included on the petition. The statement says “I do have health problems and for sometime have been taking intravenous treatments. However, when physically not present in the office I am in constant contact and aware of what is being done in the office. For several months I have been preparing for the prospect of early retirement due to my medical problems.”
The petition circulators have 30 days to collect 851 signatures of registered Richardson County voters. The 851 signatures represent 35-percent of the 2,431 voters who cast ballots in the last election.
Regina Cummings has spoken with our news department about the recall effort. We will hear from her on Monday.
