A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 73 highway in Brown County Tuesday morning sent four people to the hospital.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. about two miles north of Horton.
The Patrol says 62-year-old Connie Torkelson of Everest was traveling north when another northbound car driven by 36-year-old Beverly Brandenburg of Horton attempted to pass her and hit a patch of ice on the roadway. Brandenburg lost control of her car, striking Torkelson’s vehicle in the driver’s side.
Brandenburg was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City with what the patrol described as disabling injuries.
Three passengers in her vehicle were transported to the Horton Hospital. 29-year-old Bertrand Wheaton of Horton with disabling injuries, 2-year-old Lyllian Wheaton of Horton with possible injuries, and 32-year-old Gary Shuckahosee of Holton with possible injuries.
Torkelson was not hurt.
The Patrol says the girl was in a seatbelt, but not a childseat. Torkelson and Brandenburg were wearing seatbelts, while Shuckahosee and Wheaton were not.
