Heritage Trust Fund grants have been awarded for several area projects.
A committee of the Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review recently recommended awarding more than one million dollars for 24 projects across the state.
Locally ,a $90,000 grant, the maximum available, was awarded for the Atchison County Memorial Hall in Atchison. It will be used to replace the window lintels.
$90,000 was awarded for the Cornerstone Coffee Haus located at 431 Main Street in Seneca, which previously served as home of the First National Bank. It will be used to tuck point the building's exterior brick surface
$19,720 was awarded for St. Martha’s AME Church and Parsonage in Highland. It will used to hire a consultant to assess the property and then repair the roof on the church.
In all, forty-six eligible applications were reviewed requesting more than $3.2 million in funds.
The Heritage Trust Fund is a state program that provides matching funds for the preservation of properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places or the Register of Historic Kansas Places.
