Richardson County Clerk Mary Eickhoff has notified County Assessor Regina Cummings and the Board of Commissioners that a sufficient amount of signatures have been gathered to force a recall election.
Richardson County residents Terry Lotter and Fred Brewer initiated the recall effort on February 6th, because they feel Cummings is not personally performing her duties as County Assessor.
935 valid signatures were gathered. 851 signatures were required to force the recall. An additional 52 signatures were rejected from the petitions submitted.
The governing body of Richardson County will now order an election to be held not less than 30 days and not more than 75 days after the notification of Regina Cummings. It is expected the recall election will be scheduled for May 15th, the day of the Nebraska Primary Election.
If Cummings decides to resign prior to the recall election, the Commissioners may cancel the recall election if the governing body notified the election commissioner or county clerk of the cancellation at least 16 days prior to the election, otherwise the recall election shall be held as scheduled.
