Two Wamego teens are believed to responsible for a string of vehicle burglaries at a trailer park in St. George.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat says the two teens were detained by a resident of the Walnut Grove Trailer Park early Sunday morning after they were observed allegedly breaking into a vehicle. Riat says deputies took 18-year-old Austin Brummett-Brown and a 16-year-old boy into custody after being dispatched to the trailer park shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday, During the investigation, Riat says deputies learned it is possible Brummett-Brown and the 16-year-old may have entered as many as 40 unlocked vehicles. Taken was cash, iPods, credit cards and other items. Riat says the sheriff’s office is still in process of locating and contacting victims of the crimes. He said the total dollar loss may exceed $500. Brummett-Brown is being held in the Pottawatomie County Jail on a $100,000 bond. The sheriff says the 16-year-old was transported to a juvenile holding facility.
The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s office is asking for anyone in the Walnut Grove Trailer Park who may be a victim to contact Detective Gerald Schmidt at (785) 457-3353.
