A crowd of around 100 was on hand in Holton Tuesday as the dedication of a new building, at the Banner Creek Science Center, was held.

Dignitaries and elected officials were among those in attendance for the ceremony, marking another strong step forward in the process of completing the 4-point-5 million dollar project.

Holton School Board President Steve Bowser was there. He says the facility provides a wide variety of opportunities for hands-on student learning, with the school district already examining possible curriculum changes to better incorporate the center into daily learning(Play Audio)

Jackson County Commission Chairman Ed Kathrens says Holton, and the County on a whole, should be proud to have the unique facility in place(Play Audio)

Mike Ford, Observatory Director and Banner Creek Science Center Board member, says that while the center, on a whole, is a work in progress, a variety of uses are already underway(Play Audio)

A key feature of the center, already in use, is the 20-inch Ritchey-Chreiten telescope installed in the facility, and hooked to a 50-inch monitor so numerous observers can view at once.

The mission of the center is to provide hands-on scientific education in harmony with the ecosystem and Native American Learning.

The building dedicated Tuesday is located at 22275 N Road, in Holton, located on the Banner Creek Reservoir, three miles west of U.S. Highway 75 on Kansas Highway 16, then one mile south on N Road.
