KAIR Radio Wins Regional News Awards
KAIR Radio’s 2011 breaking news and follow-up coverage of two significant events in Atchison earned them two regional news awards this weekend.
Neil Wieland, Tom Kautz and David Meyer earned honors in the Breaking News category in the 2012 Society of Professional Journalists’ Heart of America awards, sponsored by the KC Press Club.
Wieland, Kautz and Meyer’s coverage the hours and days following the Bartlett Grain Elevator Explosion earned them gold; and Wieland and Meyer’s coverage of events for the hours following the murder of Atchison Police Sergeant David Enzbrenner earned them a bronze.
Their stories beat out other breaking news coverage from other radio outlets of all market sizes in eastern Kansas and western Missouri.
They accepted the awards at the Muehlebach Hotel in downtown Kansas City Saturday evening.
