Nebraska cattle producers are feeling the effects of drought as pastures dry up in southeast Nebraska.
A webinar University of Nebraska Extension is hosting in Auburn and Beatrice next week that will address some of the options for those producers who are struggling to feed their animals.
Gary Lesoing (less-OH-ing) at the Nemaha County Extension Office in Auburn says the lack of rain is taking a toll on pastures. (cut 1 :29 “through the summer.”)
The webinar will begin at noon on Tuesday. It will feature University of Nebraska beef specialist Dr. Galen Erickson, who will talk about treatment available for crop residue. Discussion will also take place on other feeding options available. Joni Johnson, the Nemaha County Farm Service Agency Executive Director, will also discuss some of the FSA programs that are available in response to drought conditions. Lesoing says many cattle producers are considering reducing their cattle numbers if conditions don’t improve. (cut 2 :26 “Tecumseh and Beatrice.”)
Lesoing says there are options available for those producers who don’t want to cull their herds. (cut 3 :37 “then as well.”)
There is no cost to attend the webinar, which can be viewed at either the Nemaha County Hospital Meeting Room in Auburn or at the Gage County Extension Office in Beatrice.
Pre-registration is not required, but is requested by calling either the Nemaha County Extension Office at 402-274-4755 or the Gage County Extension office at 402-223-1384.
