A Hiawatha man charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child has been order to undergo a competency evaluation.
Brown County District Judge John Weingart this ( Monday ) afternoon granted a motion filed by the co-appointed attorney for 28-year-old Nathaniel Shaw for the evaluation.
Attorney Andy Delaney said he had concerns about Shaw’s ability to assist in his defense based on conversations with Shaw and his mother.
Shaw will be evaluated by Kanza Mental Health, and if further evaluation is necessary he will be sent to the Larned State Hospital.
Shaw made his first appearance in Brown County Court this( Monday ) morning on the felony charge.
County Attorney Kevin Hill says Shaw is accused of the lewd touching/ fondling of an 8-year-old female.
Shaw was arrested last Thursday following the alleged incident occurred at the Hiawatha Aquatic Park.
Court proceedings in the case have been placed on hold pending the outcome of the mental evaluation.
Shaw is being held in the Brown County Jail on $100,000.
