Mosquito Spraying to Start in Falls City
06/28/2012

The City of Falls City will again take steps to control the mosquito population this summer – possibly beginning today.  City officials say they will spray for mosquitoes for the first time tonight if the conditions are favorable.
The city uses what’s called an Ultra Low Volume Fogging machine, which requires a small amount of chemical to cover a large area.
Weather permitting, the spraying will begin approximately one hour before sunset, and it should take about four hours to spray the entire community.  The mosquito population will determine the frequency of the applications.
City officials say that while the chemical is safe and sprayed at a low level, you should still take precautions to eliminate direct contact with the chemical when it’s sprayed in your area.  You should also not follow too close behind the fogger, as that makes it hard to see the application drift and puts you in direct contact with the chemical.  The mist should dissipate within a few minutes after the fogger passes.
You can take steps to help control the mosquito population, including removing any objects in your yard – such as old tires, tin cans and gutters – that hold standing water.  You should also change your pet’s water and birdbaths often.
Mosquito spraying will continue as needed in Falls City through September.
