The stage is now set for what will prove to be a massive, citywide overhaul, of Horton's sewer system.
That comes as the city, along with others across the nation, are required to bring their sewers into modern compliance with EPA standards.
Horton City Commissioners Wednesday evening held a special session focused on the issue. It followed a bid opening earlier that afternoon.
In attendance at both sessions was Pat Cox, representing the engineering firm of BG Consultants.
Cox told the Commission seven bids were received, and recommended that one submitted by Sapulpa Digging, Incorporated, based in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, be accepted(Play Audio)
Cox explained that the firm's numbers are lower than what had been anticipated, meaning savings, on a whole, for the overall project(Play Audio)
Much preliminary work remains prior to the start of the actual sewer upgrade, with paperwork and federal approval remaining. However, once completed, the project will likely begin in mid to late August.
