An elderly Hiawatha woman was injured this ( Monday ) morning in a single-vehicle accident in a construction zone on U.S. 36 highway east of Hiawatha.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 88-year-old Alice Streib was traveling east when the light turned green at a bridge repair project. Streib went through the cones and drove her 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass into the excavated bridge approach.
Streib was transported to the Hiawatha Community Hospital with disabling injuries.
The Patrol says she was wearing a seat belt.
The accident was reported shortly before 8 o’clock this ( Monday ) morning about three-tenths of a mile east of Mulberry Road.
