As Independence Day celebrations continue across the region, the sound of fireworks ring out during local celebrations.
One member of the household, however, likely doesn't want to be a part of the ceremonies, as dogs are, on average, frightened by the explosives.
Cory Smith, Senior Director for Pets For Life, from the Humane Society of the United States, says the safest decision a dog owner can make is to leave the pet at home, until the celebrations come to an end(Play Audio)
Smith says, under no circumstances, should the family dog be taken along to the gathering, only to be left inside the vehicle, as extreme heat continues across the area(Play Audio)
Smith says the best bet, if possible, is to keep dogs inside the house until the annual tradition of fireworks come to a close. If that can't be done, make sure they have proper shelter, in order for them to escape the sounds, and plenty of water to stay hydrated in the heat.
