A dog weighing approximately 70 pounds was destroyed by Falls City Assistant Police Chief Duane Armbruster after attacking a delivery man and then attempting to attack Armbruster Monday morning.
The Police Department received a call about 10 a-m Monday that a man was being attacked by dogs in the vicinity of 1121 Stone Street. Armbruster and Chief John Caverzagie responded to the call. Upon arrival they discovered Jeffrey Ernst, a delivery person for DHL who had been attacked by two dogs. Ernst had injuries to his arm and hand.
The owner of the residence, Jeffrey M. Frenzel was not home at the time of the attack. The children at the home had contained the two dogs that attacked Ernst. While the officers were assisting Ernst, the larger of the two dogs got loose again and attempted to attack Armbruster who was forced to destroy the dog.
Armbruster said the dog that was destroyed had previously been licensed but the license had expired.
Ernst was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment and was released. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and at this point no citations have been issued.
