( KNZA )--The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education will now meet on the second Monday of the month.
As part of their re-organizational meeting Monday, the board voted to move the board meetings from the first Monday of the month to the second Monday of the month starting in August.
It was the first board meeting for new Superintendent Bill Orth, who comes to USD 113 after serving the past three years as superintendent of schools at Osage City.
Ed Reznicek was elected board president for the 2012-2013 school year and Brent Lortscher vice-president.
Following a closed-door session, the board voted 6-1 to extend the contracts of the district’s five building principals for an additional year.
Board member Julia Alfers cast the lone no vote. Alfers said her vote is not a reflection on the job the administration has done in the past and will continue to do in the future, but her concern lies with state funding and declining enrollment.
Orth told the board he would like to form a committee to plan for the building project at Axtell.
It was the consensus of the board to move forward.
The Summerfield Elementary School will be closed at the end of the 2012-2013 school year and students will go to school at Axtell.
