Local Winners Named In State Photo Contest
07/21/2012

(KNZA)--The winners are announced following the first-ever Kansas Department of Agriculture photo contest, and among them are two from the local area.

The agency received nearly 900 photos in the categories of youth, adult, employee and professional photographers by the time the contest wrapped up on July 18th.

The photos were to display all aspects of Kansas agriculture.

Locally, Kay Smith, of Wetmore, took top honors in the adult division, while Annie Patterson, of Holton, was named runner-up in the Department of Agriculture employee division.

Smith earns one-hundred-dollars in gift cards, while Patterson receives gift cards totaling 50-dollars.

The top prize was awarded to 17-year-old Katie Hagans of Utica, whose photo, “Kansas the Beautiful,” received 5-hundred-73 votes in the finals round.

The public was allowed to vote for their favorite photos by clicking the “like” button on the submissions posted on the Department of Ag's Facebook page.

The photographs will now be used to promote Kansas agriculture, and will be featured during international trips to show ag partners the many aspects of Kansas agriculture, and will also be posted on the agency's website.

All of the photos entered can be found on the Kansas Department of Agriculture's Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/KansasDeptofAg.
