(KAIR) -- An Everest farmer says he expects this to be his worst crop he’s ever produced as a result of the hot and dry conditions.

That’s Lucas Heinen.
He’s one of about two dozen farmers that met in Atchison Thursday with crop insurance officials with Diversified Services.

Heinen says this is the only year in the last eight that’s been a failure for him.
However, it’s not going to change his strategy for next year.

On Monday, the Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported that 66 percent of corn, 59 percent of soybeans and 56 percent of sorghum was in poor to very poor condition, while only one percent of corn reported an excellent crop.
