(KNZA)--Water issues are the apparent reason for a planned visit by Kansas Governor Sam Brownback to the Kickapoo Reservation Wednesday afternoon.
His stop in the area comes as the tribe struggles through water losses, based on the current drought conditions, with all Kickapoo water customers remaining under a mandatory conservation initiative.
The issue was discussed, along with a mention of Brownback's visit, during Monday evening's meeting of the Horton City Commission. They are working out details on how to adequately provide the tribe with needed water. The goal is to make the initiative financially viable to both parties.
Meanwhile, Brownback's stop in the area Wednesday will include a public meet and greet during the afternoon at 3:30.
Planned to be held at the Kickapoo Pow Wow Park Shelter House at 3:30, the public is invited to attend, and light snacks will be served.
