Major Travel Route Set To Close This Weekend
09/13/2012

(KNZA)--A heavily traveled traffic route will be shut down, sending motorists on a lengthy detour route.

That comes as the Kansas Department of Transportation plans the closure of the K-92 lanes over the Centennial Bridge in Leavenworth.  That will happen from 1:00 Saturday morning until 5:00 Monday morning.

A second full closure is then expected from 7:00 on Friday evening, September 21st through 5:00 in the morning on Monday, September 24th.

The times of the first closure is an adjustment to the original time-frame made by KDOT.

A marked detour will be provided during the weekend closures, with traffic to be redirected to US-73/K-7 north to US-59 in Atchison then east on US-59 into Missouri to Missouri Route 45 south to Missouri Route 92.  The same detour route, but going the opposite direction, will be used for motorists on the Missouri side of the bridge closure.

The full closure of the Centennial Bridge is needed to allow repairs to be conducted underneath the structure.
