(KTNC) - Southeast Nebraska residents who need to get rid of old cleaners, paint, or other hazardous materials can do so during a series of household hazardous waste collections next week.
Bobbie Meints is the Executive Director of Five Rivers Resource Conservation and Development. She says there are collections planned in nine cities throughout southeast Nebraska. (play audio :56)
The final collection will be held next Friday in Crete.
Items that will be accepted include old paint, pesticides, herbicides, cleaning chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, and yard and garden chemicals. (play audio :32)
Items that will not be accepted include tires, antifreeze, electronic equipment, appliances, PCBs, Picric Acid, science lab materials, radioactive materials, explosives, or commercial quantities of materials.
There is no charge for the household hazardous waste disposal. Funding for the program was provided through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
Most of the collections will be held at the county shops in the various communities. For a complete list of times and locations of the Household Hazardous Waste Collections, call Five Rivers R-C-and-D at 402-335-3347.
