( KNZA )-- The Brown County Commission has decided to stay with the county’s current employee health insurance plan for 2013.
The commission voted today ( Monday ) to accept a proposal from Preferred Health Systems despite it calling for an 18.5 percent rate increase over this year.
Commissioners say the rate increase is lower than what they had expected.
The county’s health insurance broker, John Matalone, said the county saw a 265 percent claims loss ratio during the 1st quarter of this year and more than $400,000 in claims had been filed at this point.
Following a hearing drawing no public comment, the commission approved a resolution to vacate a half-mile portion of Timber Road from the junction with 180th Road south.
The land will revert back to the adjacent landowners.
