USD 115 Board Hears Concerns About Bus Schedules
09/17/2012

( KMZA )-- Nemaha Central school board members heard concerns from parents who live on the west side of the district regarding bus schedules during their regular meeting last week.

Parents cited long travel times and early pick up times. In comparing the seven bus routes, the first pick up time ranged from 6:35 to 6:55 and four of the routes are one hour in length.

Suggestions were heard from board members and the parents. Board member Jean Placke stated that if one route would be changed, four routes would need to be changed as they all require the same amount of time. Board President Gary Niehues stated that the board has directed the transportation director and superintendent to establish the routes to best meet the needs of the students while keeping costs in mind as well.

Niehues said the board doesn’t have an answer at this time but the situation will continue to be reviewed by the superintendent and transportation director.

In other business, Nemaha Valley athletic director, Warren Seitz, informed members that it is time to consider ordering baseball and softball uniforms for the spring.

Seitz suggested that the shirts could be t-shirts ordered locally and would be reasonable in cost. He also suggested a dark pant, in black or gray. The color scheme would be neutral and the name of the team will be Nemaha Central as official colors and mascot have not been decided at this point. Ball caps and socks will be the responsibility of the players which is the usual practice.

The number and sizes of uniforms is an estimate at best at this time but Seitz pointed out that this problem exists with all sports.

Seitz also informed members that he has been in contact with the City of Seneca regarding the use of the city fields. The City is interested in a facility exchange agreement as the school gyms are currently used for several city recreation activities for which the City pays use fees. The city personnel prefer not to be responsible for preparing the fields for games and practices and the district will also need to furnish the bases and smaller equipment. The school will be allowed to use the batting cages.

Seitz thought the facility exchange agreement would be beneficial to both parties and will work with city personnel on a written agreement
