(KTNC) - History will come alive in Pawnee City this Saturday and Sunday, during the annual Historical Days at the Pawnee City Historical Museum.
One highlight will be a Civil War reenactment. Dorothy Willis, with the Pawnee City Historical Society, says members of the First Nebraska Volunteer Infantry, Company A, will present a battle reenactment inspired by the Battle of Antietam. (play audio :36)
A Twilight Walk will be held Saturday at dusk, allowing visitors to walk through the campsite.
The museum opens at 10 a.m. both days. In addition to the Civil War reenactment, Willis says there will be several hands-on demonstrations that are popular with kids of all ages. (play audio :32)
There will also be a corn tank, a petting zoo, and games – including “duck plop” bingo. (play audio :13)
On Sunday, there will be a couple historical presentations. One at 11:30 a.m. will describe how people dressed during the Civil War times, and another at 1:00 p.m. on the Children’s Blizzard of 1888.
Willis says author Robert Dahlgren, who grew up in Pawnee City, will sign books both Saturday and Sunday. (play audio :25)
Saturday begins with a Tractor Drive Poker Run at 8:00 a.m. A church service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday in the one-room school.
The Pawnee City Historical Museum is comprised of 22 buildings on a seven-acre site on the east edge of Pawnee City. Admission to the Historical Days is $8 for one day or $12 for both Saturday and Sunday.
