Red Flag Warning in SE Nebraska this Afternoon
10/03/2012

(KTNC) - The National Weather Service office in Omaha has issued a Red Flag Warning for all of southeast Nebraska this afternoon.
A strong cold front approaching the area late this afternoon is expected to usher in strong south to southwest winds, along with warm temperatures, driving relative humidity down to or below 20-percent.  The low humidity and dry fuels will create the potential for critical fire weather conditions over most of the region this afternoon.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.  Outdoor burning is not recommended.  The Red Flag Warning is in effect until 7:00 p.m. today (Wednesday.)
In addition, the grassland fire danger index will be in the extreme category this afternoon.
That means that fires can start quickly and spread rapidly.  Again, all outdoor burning should be avoided in areas with extreme fire danger.
