Meetings Planned on Missouri River Management Plan
The U-S Army Corps of Engineers plans to outline its 2013 operating plans for the Missouri River at a half-dozen public meetings in the Missouri River basin in the coming weeks.
Corps spokeswoman Monique Farmer says they want to hear from people who were affected by the Corps’ management of the Missouri River. (play audio :23)
Long-range forecasts point to below normal snowfall in the region for the winter ahead. Farmer says releases from Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, South Dakota, will also likely be below normal all winter. (play audio :22)
With water releases from upstream reservoirs expected to be at minimum levels through the winter after extreme drought, Farmer says the Corps of Engineers is working with cities and power plants on several stretches of the river. (play audio :21)
The first meeting is scheduled October 31st in Sioux City, Iowa. One of the meetings will be held in St. Joseph, Missouri. Farmer says the Missouri River’s draft operating plan will be released early next year.
