( KNZA )--A lightning strike affected operations at the Brown County Sheriff’s office early Sunday morning.
Sheriff John Merchant says the sheriff’s office was temporarily off line due to the lightning strike.
Merchant says a transformer just west of the jail was struck by lightning causing a majority of the power loss. He says Westar Energy was called.
The Horton Police Department’s dispatch assisted with handling 911 calls until the repairs were completed.
Merchant says the back-up generator at the jail was affected by the strike. He says a local electrician repaired the generator and all parts of the jail and dispatch systems were up and running in a timely manner.
