(KTNC) - The Falls City School District has taken the next step to possibly add baseball as a varsity sport. The District 56 School Board on Monday authorized the formation of a committee to review a proposal to add baseball in the spring of the 2013-14 school year.
Superintendent Tim Heckenlively says the committee will include school administrators and possibly one or two other District 56 employees.
Heckenlively explains the district will go through a process to evaluate the current athletic programs, and then the Baseball Review Committee will complete the same type of evaluation on the baseball proposal. (play audio :49)
Part of the evaluation process includes a student survey. That survey will include current sixth through 11th grade students, and will be one of ten factors that will be considered in whether to begin a baseball program. (play audio :52)
Heckenlively said they’d like to get the survey out to students in the next couple of weeks, and have a recommendation to the School Board on whether to add baseball early next year.
