(KTNC) - The Pawnee City Council hired a new City Crew member when they met Monday evening.
The council accepted the recommendation of an interview committee to hire Jake Packett for the full-time position at a starting salary of $13 an hour.
The committee had actually recommended hiring John Wiers for the position, but he had already accepted a position with the State of Nebraska when he was contacted about accepting the Pawnee City job.
No date is set when Packett will begin working for Pawnee City.
In other business, the City Council decided that Pawnee City will continue the practice of reserving camping pads at the City Pond. The council discussed whether to continue to reserve spots or have them available on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are eight spaces with electrical hook-ups at the City Pond. Individuals can call the Pawnee City Office in advance to reserve a space, though reservations are not required.
The council tabled action on a mini-grant application from the Nebraska Academy of Sciences. The grant is for $3,000 and requires no city match, with funds coming from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.
Council also took no action on the designated truck route. Pawnee City is continuing to take public input on the proposed truck route.
Due to the Christmas holiday, the second Pawnee City Council meeting in December has been rescheduled for Friday, December 21, rather than Monday, December 24.
