Body Identified As Missing Hiawatha Man

(KNZA)--A body found along a river in Longview, Washington one year ago has been identified as a missing Hiawatha man.

Authorities say the remains are confirmed as 57-year-old Charles Farley, who was reported missing in April of last year. He had last been seen at the home of relatives in Axtell. According to Hiawatha Police Chief John Defore, Farley had told family on April 11th that he planned to leave the state. He apparently did just that, disappearing during his travels.

With the discovered remains so badly decomposed that an autopsy proved inconclusive, Farley's dental records were obtained from his biological brother and sister and sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, where DNA was taken from the samples. That information was then submitted to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, ultimately leading to this week's revelation that the body belonged to Farley.

Farley’s pickup was discovered in a Halsey, Oregon truck stop in June of last year, about 90 miles from the Columbia River where his body was found December 15th.

Chief Defore says the long-term, overall investigation reveals no criminal activity in regards to the fate of Farley(Play Audio)

Graveside memorial services for Charles Farley are planned and will be announced later by the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
