(KNZA)--Local Kansas residents, in counties across the area, found themselves in the dark as the winter storm that moved in overnight knocked out power in numerous locations.
Despite their best efforts, including bringing in crews from southeast Kansas and the Wichita area, thousands still remain without power, including many in the local area.
Westar spokeswoman Erin LaRow says some customers, in two local counties, could remain without power through tomorrow(Play Audio)
At last check, 258 Atchison customers remained without power, while 1, 292 were without in Leavenworth.
Power has not yet been restored to 326 Brown County Westar customers, while 105 remain without in Jefferson County.
LaRow says the extreme winds worked against the power company crews today, with efforts hindered due to those conditions. As power would be restored in one area, the winds would then knock it out again, leaving crews struggling to keep up.
