Richardson County Commissioners Discuss 4-County Mentoring Program

(KTNC) - Richardson County Commissioners awarded a bid to replace the water chiller on the Courthouse air conditioner to Jones Air Conditioning of Falls City.  Jones submitted the low bid of $94,588.  Bids were opened during Tuesday’s Commission meeting.
 Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert updated the Board with an update on county road maintenance.  Commissioners approved a revised agreement with the City of Humboldt covering repairs, maintenance and construction of certain bridges and roads in the Humboldt area.  Board discussed plans to replace the bridge that collapsed northwest of Humboldt.
 Commissioners met with County Attorney Bob Meyer to review the Four-County Mentoring Program.  The program is funded by a grant received through the Nebraska Crime Commission.
 The County received a letter from Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters regarding the lack of capacity to continue coordinating all the activities that the Nebraska Crime Commission requires with the grant funding, including development of a comprehensive juvenile services plan for the next three years.
 Big Brothers Big Sisters will continue serving the four-county area through the end of the current contract, until June 30, 2013.  They will also continue to monitor and supervise the matches that are in place at that time with no further expense.
 Commissioners approved a motion to enter into an agreement with Johnson, Nemaha, and Pawnee Counties, and People United for Families, to implement a four-county juvenile service plan.  People United for Families is a non-profit organization based in Nebraska.
 In other business this week, Commissioners received a letter from the Nebraska State Auditor regarding the audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013.  The State Auditor’s office will conduct the audit, with a maximum fee of $25,000.
 The County Board voiced its support for the Nemaha NRD and Five Rivers R-C-and-D to seek a grant for a Household Hazardous Waste Collection to be held annually in Richardson County for the next three years.
 And the Board approved the nomination of Robert White to the Richardson County Extension Board, effective January 1st.
