St. Joseph police believe alcohol and speed were factors in a fatal accident early Friday morning.
According to KQ2 News, Police say the driver, 17-year-old Dylan S. Pierce of DeKalb, lost control of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup while travelling eastbound on Cook Road just east of 169 Highway before going off the road and hitting a tree around three this (Friday) morning.
Pierce was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and was later released.
KQ2 News says he is being held on an investigative charge of driving while intoxicated.
Eighteen-year-old Cole Patrick, of St. Joseph was pronounced dead at the scene.
Patrick was a backseat passenger in the truck.
Another passenger, 18-year-old Brent Bush of DeKalb was transported by private vehicle with minor injuries.
