Update: Horton Man Charged For Abuse of A Child
01/27/2013

Matthew Adams

( KNZA )-A Horton man is scheduled to appear in a Brown County courtroom this week following his arrest for the alleged abuse of a child.

Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says 27-year-old Matthew Adams was charged last week in Brown County District Court with aggravated battery and felony abuse of a child.

Hill says the charges were filed following an investigation by the Horton Police Department and Brown County Sheriff's Department.  The investigation also involved personnel from Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

During his first appearance in court last week, Hiawatha Attorney Andy Delaney was appointed to represent Adams, and a preliminary hearing set for this Wednesday.

Court documents indicate Adams is accused of shaking a child born in 2012, causing great bodily harm to the child.

Hill said as of Friday the child remained a patient at Children’s Mercy Hospital, but was making some improvement.

He said he couldn’t comment on the child’s relation to Adams or whether any child in need of care cases had been filed.

Adams remains in the Brown County Jail held on 150-thousand-dollars bond.

This story sounds all too familiar. About 4 1/2 yrs ago there was a baby boy shaken by his moms bf in atchison. He was 4 mths old. The guy went to trial and was found not guilty because the baby had also fallen off the bed a few days before the shaking incident and the jury said that could have caused his injuries. This baby is now almost 5, cant walk, cant talk, is blind, has seizures, eats through a feeding tube and has severe brain damage. No, this could not have been caused by a fall off of a bed. I know all of this because I adopted him. I hope this guy gets more of a punishment than my sons abuser got. He is running free to go out and do it again. The only one being punished is my baby boy, who is serving a life sentence. People, stop shaking these innocent babies. They deserve a chance at life too!
